"The Daily Show" actor Hasan Minhaj joins the cast of "Rock That Body," starring "Ghost in the Shell" star Scarlett Johansson. The female-driven comedy script "Move That Body" appeared on the 2015 Black List.
According to Variety, Minhaj will be joining the previously cast Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoe Kravitz. He will play in an undisclosed role. Johansson joined the project in December last year and will play the lead role as Jess.
"Divergent" actress Kravitz was cast on April 28 in "Rock That Body" and will play as Blair. On May 2, "Saturday Night Live" comedian McKinnon was announced to play as Pippa, "22 Jump Street" actress Bell as Alice, and "Broad City" actress Glazer as Frankie.
The raunchy R-rated comedy "Rock That Body" follows a group of friends, Deadline reported. The five friends get a beach house in Miami for the wild bachelorette party. Their party goes completely off the rails when a male stripper turns up dead.
Paul W. Downs and "Broad City" screenwriter Lucia Aniello co-wrote "Rock That Body." They will also produce through their Paulilu banner alongside Matt Tolmach and Dave Becky. Downs will also star with Aniello directing.
Minhaj is best known for appearing on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show." He is currently on a national tour for Homecoming King. He is repped by WME and Haven Entertainment.
Principal photography for "Rock That Body" already began in Saddle Rock, New York back in August. Jonathan Kadin is overseeing for the studio. Sony picked it up last summer in a very aggressive bidding war.
"Rock That Body" has started filming in Mount Vernon, New York. It will open in theaters on June 23, 2017 and will go up against Paramount's mega-sequel "Transformers: The Last Knight," starring Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci.
