CBS will create spin-off of 'The Big Bang Theory' portray Sheldon's childhood

CBS will make a prequel to "The Big Bang Theory" to portray the childhood of Caltech physicist Sheldon Cooper. The series is titled "Young Sheldon."

The network announced on Monday, March 13 that its executives has given producer Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro a straight to series order for "Young Sheldon," CBS News reported. This order has bypassed the traditional method of screening and review for the spin-off series.

"Young Sheldon" will be a comedy for the Fall season, however there is no official announcement on its premiere. Lorre and Molaro has cast young actor Iain Armitage to play the young character who is made famous by Jim Parsons in original series of "The Big Bang Theory." Actress Zoe Perry is cast to be Sheldon's mother, and interestingly, the mother of adult Sheldon in the original series is played by her mother Laurie Metcalfe.

Other cast members for "Young Sheldon" are Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan. The new series will follow the story of the 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper who lives in Eastern Texas, with Parsons narrates the story as the adult Sheldon.

Molaro will write the pilot script of "Young Sheldon," FOX News reported. He will also become the executive producers along with Lorre, Parsons and Todd Spiewak.

"The Big Bang Theory" was first aired in 2007. Within ten years, the series still maintain a good ratings, withour indication of slowing down. In fact, it has become one of the most popular comedy show in CBS. Therefore, the network expects its spin-off "Young Sheldon" will inherit the success of its original series.

In order to bring the audience to watch the spin-off, Parsons is scheduled make a cameo appearance in "Young Sheldon." His popularity as the adult Sheldon in the "The Big Bang Theory" original series is expected to carry the fans to the new series.
