"Shameless" alum Justin Chatwin will appear in "Doctor Who" as a superpowered character in its Christmas special episode.
Not a lot of details have been disclosed but it is believed that Chatwin will play an American character with a brash personality, Radio Times reported. As to the power that he will have, reports can only go as far as someone who have some "interstellar secrets of one sort or another."
"Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat said that the Christmas special will have a lot of heart. Writer Mark Gatiss also chimed in and said that the script actually made him emotional.
Chatwin's appearance follows the announcement that Matt Lucas will come back as Nardole in the special, Screen Rant reported. Neither Chatwin nor Lucas' character will be Doctor's companion during the special. However, fans speculate that Nardole will "fill a similar role" to Pearl Mackie's Bill who will not appear until Season 10. Mackie's character is reportedly from the present time.
Elsewhere, Peter Cipaldi will continue playing the Twelfth Doctor and will stay on the show for at least one more season. Season 10 will premiere after the Christmas special.
In other news, "Doctor Who" spin-off series "Class" is close to a premiere. Describing the series, creator Patrick Ness said:
"'Class' is funny and moving and exciting and scary and sexy, and it's true, I hope, to what teenagers feel like their lives are."
"Class" centers on teens who attend Clara Oswald Coal Hill School. "Doctor Who" Season 10 on the other hand begins in 2017.
