Aside from the fact that "BONES" Season 12 will be its final installment, Emily Deschanel, who takes the role of Brennan, hinted there will be sadness in the upcoming season. Although the actress refused to reveal more about her character, she is hopeful Brennan will have a happy ending at the end of the series.
"I hope there's some kind of happy ending on some level [for Brennan], even though I know there's going to be some sadness in the [next] season," Deschanel said as per TV Line.
Reports suggest Brennan will continue to suffer from psychological problems in "BONES" Season 12. It can be remembered that Deschanel's character has had nightmares about Zack among other wicked visions.
Amid Brennan's psychological nightmares, Zack returned to the scene and even kidnapped her. As a result, "BONES" viewers thought Zack is the person behind "The Puppeteer," who is being chased by the FBI.
However, some spoilers suggest Zack is just the right-hand man of the real serial killer. Other reports also claim he will save Brennan at the end of "Bones" Season 2 and will be killed for doing so.
Meanwhile, a co-showrunner of the series teased fans about Booth and Brennan's newest adventure in "BONES" Season 12. "It's a world we've never been in [that] only Booth and Brennan can do justice to," Jonathan Collier said.
In February, FOX bosses announced the renewal of the crime procedural drama for its twelfth and final season. The 12-episode installment will make "BONES" one of the longest-running series of the network, FOX noted.
"In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it's comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability. Apparently, that beacon is "BONES,"" said EP Hart Hanson.
He continued, "It just shows what you can do with an amalgam of genius cast, amazing crew, cunning writers, stalwart studio, sweat, a tough economy, a mercurial network, determination, luck, magic, miracles and the most loyal audience in the world."
"BONES" stars Deschanel and David Boreanaz also expressed their gratitude towards FOX for renewing the series and for giving it "the ending it deserves." The stars added they are dedicating the season finale to its viewers who have supported "Bones" for the past 10 years.
"BONES" Season 12 returns in 2017 on FOX.
