Amid reports claiming China is planning to ban all Korean content in the country, the upcoming 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards will still push through on Dec. 2 which will be held in Hong Kong.
A source affiliated with Mnet admitted the annual awarding event has encountered little problems in the past, which they were able to resolve. Hence, the Mnet member is confident the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards will continue despite the circulating reports about China's planned regulation.
"It has been 20 years since we started the hallyu business and there has always been some sort of a little problem all the time," Shin Hyung Kwan said as per Korea Times.
The head of music content business continued, "We had difficulties when there was a change in Japanese TV industry regulations that would downsize the Korean content market, but we sorted it out."
Shin added they are working with their partners in Hong Kong, assuring the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards will take place as planned.
Just last week, reports stated China is threatening block Korean content in the country after the United States and Korea have decided to deploy Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in Korea as a defense against North Korea, Soompi cited.
Further reports claimed China disagreed with the decision last July, hence, the country is reportedly planning to implement the regulation against Korean entertainment. However, China has yet to reach a final decision regarding the matter.
But if China pushes to ban Korean entertainment, the regulation reportedly includes banning Korean organizations filming in the country, investing in Korean agencies, idol concerts, Korean-Chinese collaborative works, and broadcasting dramas with Korean artists.
