It has been almost three years since the passing of the late Robin Williams back in 2014 and we've haven't really heard anything else except for the fact the he would've played the role of Rubeus Hagrid in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" - only except he was turned down.

Casting director Janet Hirshenson explained in The Huffington Post that the legendary late comedian wanted the role of the Hogwart's beloved half-giant groundskeeper.

"Robin [Williams] had called [director Chris Columbus] because he really wanted to be in the movie," she explained, "but it was a British-only edict, and once he said no to Robin, he wasn't going to say yes to anybody else, that's for sure."

It was also author J.K. Rowling's first choice that Robbie Coltrane to play Hagrid in all eight original "Harry Potter" films, according to Hirshenson.

In earlier news from EW, it was also mentioned that Williams was also considered in playing another giant character back then in screen adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel "The BFG" as the titular character the Big Friendly Giant. The role was considered back then when the studio had plans for the adaptation back in the 90s.

Producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall really wanted the beloved comedian for the part, but it was due to numerous technical limitations back then that hindered them, especially the interactivity with the giant and the little orphan girl.

"Robin spent a lot of time with us actually doing cast readings and he was hilarious," Kennedy said. "He would have been a great BFG."

The Lucasfilm president went on to say that they've had numerous attempts at facing the struggle of bringing the 24-foot giant to life by exploring "lots of different kind of [digital] effects and techniques." The challenge was "figuring out technically how we would do it and whether or not we should try it with to do with forced perspective."

The role was eventually given to Mark Rylance when the studio began production again recently.

"The BFG" had premiered back on July 1, 2016.
