It's almost as if producers have heard the pleas of the fans and brought back DC's beloved cynical, arcane exorcist John Constantine. Previously cancelled on NBC, CW's subsidiary, CW Seed, has taken upon themselves to bring Matt Ryan back to kick some serious supernatural ass - but, in an animated series instead of its previous live-action form.
According to Comicbook.com, the upcoming animated series of "Constantine" will have the same type of animation as CW Seed's other series "Vixen" and "The Ray." The supernatural-themed series will be produced by Arrowverse's Greg Berlanti.
Here's the latest poster of CW Seed's series:
Matt Ryan has returned once again to grace the screens as John Constantine. This has been the third time he has appeared as the titular character with the first time being on NBC, second time as a guest character in CW's hit series "Arrow," and the third time being animated in "Justice League Dark." This may as well be Ryan's second time appearing as an animated character.
It's also worth noting that the logo is slightly different from the live-action show, along with other features like the music and such.
Ryan expressed his desire and excitement to return as the titular character. "Actors don't generally like to revisit their own filmed performances, but I really enjoyed watching the episodes myself because Constantine is such a bold, outright character - both to play and to watch," Ryan recently said. "He's this brilliant ball of wisecracking, chain-smoking street magic - and it's so much fun exploring his fascinating, dark world of torment and mystery."
Other actors from the original live-action show that include Angelica Celaya, Charles Halford, and Harold Perrinault have not yet been confirmed to appear in the new animated series. It's also quite uncertain whether the series will go in the same direction as the original show in terms of having the "rising darkness" kind of concept.
As the latest project for CW, IGN reports that Berlanti and David Goyer (executive producer of the original live-action series from NBC) will be tying this new "Constantine" series to the "Arrowverse". CW Head Mark Pedowitz added that the upcoming show will have a bearing on the show but hasn't specified on how it exactly would.
As of the moment, any more details especially release dates have yet to be announced. We'll update as soon as we can.
