"Allied" actress Toni Collette and "The Imitation Game" actor Matthew Goode are starring in the independent comedy "Birthmarked." "White Wash" director Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais is being helmed on it.
According to Variety, Collette (Catherine) and Goode (Ben) are portraying two respected scientists in "Birthmarked." Both are joining "Riddick" actor Andreas Apergis (Samsonov), "The World's End" actor Michael Smiley (Gertz), "Yes Man" actress Fionnula Flanagan (Mrs. Tridek), and "Mommy" actress Suzanne Clément (Dr. Julie Bouchard) in the cast.
"Birthmarked" is set in 1977. It revolves around Ben and Catherine quitting their university jobs to conduct a nature-vs.-nurture experiment that they think will revolutionize the understanding of human identity. The experiment will reveal not only little scientific truth but instead lead the pair to discover the true value of family, Deadline reported.
The nature-vs.-nurture experiment in "Birthmarked" aims to raise three children contrarily to their genetic predispositions to prove that the ultimate power of nurture over nature with a newborn girl adopted from two feeble-minded parents is raised to be smart. A newborn boy adopted from two anger-prone parents is raised to be a pacifist, and their own biological son coming from a long lineage of scientific brains is raised to become a revered artist.
"Marius Borodine" writer Marc Tulin has written the script of "Birthmarked" from his original story with Hoss-Desmarais. Both have previously worked together on Hoss-Desmarais' first feature "Whitewash."
The producers of "Birthmarked" are Pierre Even of Item 7 and co-producer Susan Mullen of Parallel Film Productions. Executive producers are Jeff Sackman, Berry Meyerowitz, and Mark Slone of eOne. Meyerowitz is also handling the film's international sales.
Collette won an Emmy for "United States of Tara" and will be seen next in war drama "Yellow Birds" and action thriller "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage." Meanwhile, Goode most recently starred in "Allied" directed by "The Walk" director Robert Zemeckis alongside "World Wide Z" actor Brad Pitt and "Rust and Bone" actress Marion Cotillard.
"Birthmarked" is shooting underway near Montreal. It will be released in Canada by eOne this year.
