The build date for the updated security patch is 5 Jan 2017 and the phones receive a regular update during the beginning of every month, from Google. But this update coincides with the software update of the Nexus 6.

The carrier update of the security patches brings additional benefits by improving performance and stability too. The notification of this update does not pop up automatically on your smart phone screen at present because it is a new addition.
