Mike Colter explained in a recent interview the relationship between Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist and Luke Cage in "The Defenders." The actor revealed that Danny sort of turns into Luke's protégé.

Netflix's "The Defenders" brings together two of the strongest characters in the Marvel comics-Iron Fist and Luke Cage. While their tandem may spell trouble, Colter said otherwise. He said that Iron Fist and Luke are a "cool combination," so their team-up will work out.

Likewise, Colter revealed that the two heroes actually become allies in "The Defenders." He teased that Luke takes Danny under his wing and becomes his mentor. After all, he is the mature one and has more experiences being a vigilante. He has seen and experienced all the dangers that the outside world can offer.

"There's an exuberance that Iron Fist comes with that Luke Cage wants to temper a bit. Danny comes out like a bull in a china shop in some ways, and I think Luke has seen the world and knows certain things," Colter told Entertainment Weekly.

Colter's explanation about Luke and Iron Fist's friendship contradicts previous speculations about their relationship in "The Defenders." Danny Rand and Luke Cage could supposedly become enemies because of a woman. The addition of Misty Knight in the series teases the heroes will be involved in a love triangle.

Simone Missick, who played Misty Knight in "Luke Cage," told The Wrap that she is also in "The Defenders." Her involvement in the show teased trouble for Iron Fist and Luke. After all, in the Marvel comics, both men were romantically involved with the Harlem cop. She first strikes up a romance with Danny then with Luke.

However, it remains unclear if the show will follow Misty Knight's comicbook storyline. Colter said in his interview that "The Defenders" pays homage to the comics, but with a modern culture.
