"Vikings" actor Travis Fimmel returns to History to develop an untitled Wyatt Earp anthology drama series. He is taking on a multifaceted new role at the said channel network.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fimmel will play criminal-turned-lawman Wyatt Earp in the first installment of the historical Wyatt Earp anthology. He conceived of the project and penned the first episode. He is also attached to executive produce.
Fimmel is teaming up with the History Channel network to develop a scripted Wyatt Earp anthology series that tells the stories of Wyatt Earp and other iconic sinners and anti-heroes throughout history, Variety reported. He brought the idea to the network and A+E Studios.
The first installment of the untitled Wyatt Earp anthology will tell the story of Earp, from his days in violent Dodge City and his complex relationships with Doc Holliday and Bat Masterson, to the events of the legendary gunfight at the OK Corral. It also reunites Fimmel with Atlas Entertainment, which produced the 2016's game-inspired film "Warcraft: The Beginning," in which Fimmel starred as Anduin Lothar.
A+E Studios will produce the untitled Wyatt Earp anthology in association with Atlas Entertainment and Imperative Entertainment. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will executive produce for Atlas Entertainment.
Fimmel starred on "Vikings" for the first four seasons before his character Ragnar was shockingly killed off in December 2016. His other credits include playing John Clayton in "Tarzan" the series. He is represented by Management 360, Paradigm, and AJ Brandenstein of Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
History Channel is pushing further into scripted with the untitled Wyatt Earp anthology and has found success with "Vikings" as well as scripted minis like "Roots" and "Hatfields & McCoys." The channel launched the scripted Weinstein Company military drama "Six" on Jan. 18, Wednesday, which grabbed 2.6 million viewers.
The untitled Wyatt Earp anthology is currently in development.
