"The Best Offer" actor Jim Sturgess is in negotiations to star opposite "Clash of Titans" actress Agyness Deyn in Hulu's sci-fi drama "Hard Sun." "Game of Thrones" director Brian Kirk will be the lead director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sturgess will play detective Robert Hicks while Deyn will play detective Elaine Renko in "Hard Sun." They are partners and enemies seeking to enforce the law and protect their loved ones in a world that every day slips closer to certain destruction.
In the plot of "Hard Sun," Hicks is a family man and a great and committed officer but profoundly corrupt while Renko is a difficult and damaged officer but utterly incorruptible, Variety reported. They stand on different ends of the social and moral spectrum but seriously distrust one another for good reason. However, the duo must somehow learn to work together if they are going to survive until the end of the world.
"Luther" writer Neil Cross will be penning the script of "Hard Sun." He will also executive produce alongside Kirk, "Call the Midwife" executive producer Hugh Warren, Euston Films' Kate Harwood, and BBC One's Elizabeth Kilgarriff. Hulu has boarded the six-hour miniseries as co-producer.
Sturgess said in an interview for "Hard Sun" that he is very excited to play Hicks. He added that it is a great opportunity to work with Cross' fantastic writing. Meanwhile, Deyn said that she is a fan of both Cross and Kirk's work and was hooked as she read the first episode.
Besides "Hard Sun," Sturgess just wrapped up production in crime thriller "London Fields." He also recently starred in AMC's crime drama "Feed the Beast" and BBC's two miniseries "Close to the Enemy." He is best known for starring as Jude in fantasy musical drama "Across the Universe" and co-starring opposite "Interstellar" actress Anne Hathaway in 2011 romantic drama "One Day."
Deyn is known for playing Aphrodite in action fantasy "Clash of Titans" opposite "Taken" actor Liam Neeson. She is represented by UTA.
The production of "Hard Sun" is currently underway in London and will air later this year. FremantleMedia International will handle the international sales.
