It was more of a flop rather than a success for "12 Monkeys" Season 2 after it was recorded that the viewership of the American television series nosedived as compared to its first season that was aired in 2015; however, not even plummeting figures can stop them from renewing for third season.
According to MNG, 1.35 million viewers got hooked with "12 Monkeys" Season 1; however, these figures went down until the conclusion of its second season in July. With this said, followers of "12 Monkeys" were left puzzled whether the sci-fi mystery drama series will be renewed for its third season or not.
Despite having low viewership, Syfy announced by the end of June that the network will renew "12 Monkeys" for its third season. The decision may seem very unlikely considering the declining viewership, but some of the big bosses have something to say why this series deserves a third season.
"This season of '12 Monkeys' has proven to be a breakthrough. From its epic storytelling to its grand aesthetic, Terry and the cast and crew have invested boundless energy and passion, and it showed. New legions of fans will discover what devoted viewers already know: It's one of the best shows on television," EW quoted Jeff Wachtel as saying.
"In two short seasons, "12 Monkeys" has become a cult favorite series. Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intensely relatable. It's exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers," added by president of entertainment works Chris McCumber.
It is safe to say that good reviews and an ample of followers could be enough reasons for a series to be renewed. Hence, "12 Monkeys" is not letting their fans down as the latter will soon know what turns out on the relationship of Cassie and Cole.
The 13-episode "12 Monkeys" Season 3 is expected premiere in 2017.
