"Prison Break" will be back on the small screen next year in a nine-episode miniseries. It will be a continuation of the original show that was aired from 2005 to 2009, and it will see the return of the two main actors, Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller.
But what can fans expect?
"There's prison, action-adventure, themes of brotherhood and loyalty and sacrifice, but it also does feel very topical," Miller, who plays the role of Michael Scofield, told the Entertainment Weekly. "It's meant to feel like this is happening out there in the world today."
These are elements that made the first four seasons of the series a success, and Miller said there will be more of these things that fans loved. He also explained that the only reason he agreed to do the mini-series is because there's a story worth telling.
"We want to do something that's going to stand beside what came before. If we can't do it right, best not to do it at all," Miller said. "So if Fox or [creator] Paul Scheuring or whoever came to me and said, 'We have another idea for another installment beyond this one,' I'd be interested in listening."
Fans will recall that Michael (Miller) came up with an elaborate plan to save his brother Lincoln (Purcell) from the death penalty after having been wrongfully accused of murder. Michael committed a crime so he would be locked up in the same facility as his older brother, and they were able to break out. As they were trying to uncover the conspiracy that framed Lincoln, they learned of an organization called The Company.
The death of Michael at the end of the fourth season raised the question of how the producers would bring Millier's character back. Fox's Dana Walden, according to Deadline, assured fans last year that there will be "a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world."
In the upcoming episodes, it will be Lincoln's turn to save Michael by breaking him out of prison and, given the intensity of the trailer, it's something worth looking forward to.
The "Prison Break" limited series will be aired in early 2017.
