NBC announces that "Tonight's Show" Jimmy Fallon will be hosting the 2017 Golden Globes Awards. President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Lorenzo Soria, expressed his excitement and commended Fallon for his comedic brilliance as a host.

The 2017 Golden Globes Awards will air on Jan. 8 live from Beverly Hilton. Fallon will be taking over Ricky Gervais who hosted the ceremony for four consecutive periods. Fallon, despite having hosted a number of awards shows, expressed his enthusiasm because he was honored to be tapped for such a prestigious event. He tweeted about his excitement and even took a dig at Donald Trump.

According to The Los Angeles Times, the audience can expect a lot of comedic wit from Fallon during the 2017 Golden Globes Awards. Soria comments that the host brings with him a lot of comedic brilliance which is perfect for the show. The CEO of dick clark production, Allen Shapiro, also commended Fallon and believed that his brand of comedy would continue to make the awards show more exciting.

Fallon has been hosting the "Tonight's Show" since 2014 and the show has been running with favorable ratings from a lot of viewers. He also hosted the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards. Independent reported that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) considered Fallon as a much safer choice to host the 2017 Golden Globes Awards. After how Gervais sparked controversy with his offensive jokes during his previous stints, the HFPA did not want to risk it anymore.

The nominations for the 2017 Golden Globes Awards will commence on Dec.12.
