Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) begins 2016 by removing its low-rating shows such as the "Lord of Shanghai."
Many of the station's 2015 series did not do well in terms of ratings, Jayne Stars reported. This prompted TVB CEO Mark Lee to call off airing of five series for this year's lineup: "The Last Healer in Forbidden City," "Watch Out Boss," "Come With Me," "Rogue Emperor" and "No Reservations."
These series were provided with utmost publicity, but still failed to achieve high ratings.
"No Reservations" is Myolle Wu's final production in TVB, while the "Last Healer in Forbidden City" will be Tavia Yeung's final series.
Aside from the ratings, it is rumored that an internal conflict is ongoing within the station; hence the pull-out of the TV shows. With Catherine Tsang's diminishing clout, Lee and Assistant General Manager Felix To have concluded to remove what they considered the station's worst performing shows, which totaled around HK $75 million to produce.
Fan Bingbing's "The Empress of China" denotes enormous success, which may lead to buying more series for the station's primetime slots. Also slated for schedule is "Wu Xin: The Monster Killer."
As per Kenneth Ma, "Rogue Emperor" major star, there isn't any information yet as to the cancellation so it leaves him with no response.
The lead actress of "Come With Me" Sharon Chan also states that she hasn't heard any news yet, but it would be a shame not to include her show. However, she respects the company's decision.
The studio big shots Sandy Yu and Catherine Tsang are beating off supremacy in the drama department, according to Chinatopix. In Tsang's management in the drama department in 2014, she experienced poor reviews and disappointing ratings for the station's TV shows. Meanwhile, Yu is considered the station's darling with her success in a number of variety shows to include "Four Amigos Bon Voyage," "DoDo Goes Shopping" and "Big Big World," noted to be ratings winners.
On other TVB news, Television Broadcasts Ltd. is said to launch a free-based onlive TV service that will be similar to Netflix. The said online TV service will launch on March and will feature an Interactive Disney channel plus 13 free-based channels.
