"The Fast and the Furious" franchise has unveiled the first trailer of the upcoming eight instalment called "The Fate of The Furious."

The trailer promises the same high-octane and daredevil maneuvers for which the series was known for. That being said, "Furious 8" seems to have spruced up the formula with the inclusion of a new mysterious villain who is tagged as an IT terrorist by Mr. Nobody (played by Kurt Russell).

As for stunts, it bears noting that apart from a tank, "Furious 8" will also feature an otherworldly submarine car chase. Thanks to director F. Gary Gray ("Straight Outta Comption"), the movie looks like it is on its way to topping the action sequences of the previous films in terms of creativity.

Apart from the stunts, it is interesting to note that the franchise is pulling a fast one on its fans. All this while, viewers and fans have been familiar with 'family.' This time without Paul Walker on board, the series looks like it is hitting the reboot button with an interesting plot to boot.

In the 3-minute trailer, there had been a couple of mentions on how titular character, Dom (played by Vin Diesel) was not himself as we see him going rogue and possibly hurting the people who he deems as 'family.' The last shot of the trailer was interesting showing Dom and Cipher (played by Charlize Theron) kissing in front of his wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). The scene suggests, if not confirms, the extent of Cipher's control on Dom.

Newcomer Theron is joined by "Game of Thrones" actor Kristofer Hivju, who will also be her henchman. Scott Eastwood, whose character was seen briefly on the trailer also debuts. Mainstays Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson will be back together with Nathalie Emmanuel who was introduced in "Furious 7" as a hacker named Ramsey. Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson) on the other hand will form an unlikely alliance Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw who played the main antagonist in the last film.

"The Fate of the Furious" opens on April 14, 2017.
