Wyatt travels to the past to save his wife in "Timeless" episode 13, "Karma Chameleon." However, tragedy strikes in the present time as consequences of his action.
Wyatt (Matt Lanter) manages to convince Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) to steal the time machine in "Timeless" episode 13. They pair travel back to the 1980s so Wyatt can save his wife Jessica.
According to the synopsis for "Karma Chameleon" from Cartermatt, Wyatt's plan to prevent the death of his wife involves a risky move. He must prevent the killer from being born. Lucy warns Wyatt that there will be dire consequences in the present if he messes up with the timeline.
However, Wyatt and Rufus decide to steal the Lifeboat anyway and travel to the past. The trailer for "Timeless" episode 13 show them arrive at a club. It seems Wyatt decided against his initial plan to prevent the birth of his wife's killer. The preview teases he meets Jessica instead.
Likewise, the trailer for "Timeless" episode 13 also teases the consequences of Wyatt's decision to prevent his wife's death. Disaster strikes in the present time. On the other hand, Wyatt's decision to save Jessica could also change the future.
Meanwhile, back in the present time Agent Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey) notices the time machine is missing. She starts asking questions about its disappearance and Lucy (Abigail Spencer) must cover for Rufus and Wyatt. However, Agent Christopher eventually finds out about their mission as revealed in the trailer for "Timeless" episode 13.
Wyatt's mission to save Jessica came after Flynn told him the name of his wife's killer. Goran Visnjic told Entertainment Weekly that Flynn revealed this information so he can mess up with Wyatt. He wants Wyatt to do crazy things, and stealing the Lifeboat and traveling to the past in "Timeless" episode 13, certainly counts as insane.
